From The Capt's Desk

I invite everyone from the 2nd Ky to attend this meeting with me.

Thanks!

Mike

Gentlemen,
Col. Ward has asked me to inform you all, that since we did not received any notice of major scheduling conflicts from you after our message proposing the 5th of January as the date of our annual battalion meeting, that this will be the date of the meeting. Only Capt. Stich had a minor issue with that date but, said that he will be able to make the meeting just possibly being a little late. In order to accommodate Capt. Stich and all those others who have great distances to travel we will be starting the meeting at 10:00AM central time rather than 9:00AM. By doing so we will be allowing those who have much longer distances to come a little more time. As normal, dress is casual but period attire is welcome if you so choose. We ask that all company commanders be in attendance if at all possible, and if not that they should appoint a subordinate as the company's representative. We strongly encourage all NCOs to attend as SGM. Gladden has a class of instruction for them. Also, please ask
all company musicians to attend if at all possible so that Sgt. Miles Ward can have some time for Drum and Fife Corps instruction. We are requesting that "every" company commander have at least one proposal for an event that he feels may interest the battalion for the year 2008, of course that would be in addition to the major event of the year, Gettysburg. Please forward to the Colonel or me your suggestion for a battalion event for 2008 by December 31st. We would like to have those suggestons prior to the meeting so that we may have as many details as possible for the meeting. Gentlemen, below you will find Col. Wards' directions to the meeting site in Princeton, KY.. Please disseminate these directions to all who are planning on attending.

I remain your
humble servant,
Lt. Col. Dukes
Tenn. Valley Battalion
Col. Robert L. Ward, Commanding

TVB Company Commanders, 10th TN, and 16th TN,

I have received word from Col Ward to update everyone on the situation for Gettysburg this year. Several Companies have expressed interest in going, to this event, so Col Ward has been working on finding us a home. I understand that we have not officially voted on this event for a battalion event, but there has been enough interest form company commanders about this event, we fell confident that we will vote to attend in January. The TVB is going to fall in under General Huckabee's Brigade for this event. This is not a permanent position in this brigade, General Huckabee is taking is 5 battalions to the event, and has offered the TVB and Hardee's Guard to join him. The more number we have, the better position we will be in for the battles.

The end date for early registration is going to be December 31st. After this date, the fee's will go up so it is important to get as many members registered now. The link to the event site is http://www.gettysburgreenactment.com/reenactor.htm <http://www.gettysburgreenactment.com/reenactor.htm> . The most important part of this process is on the first page. After you have registered your unit, in the part were it says Organization Affiliation you must put Huckabee's Brigade!! Not TVB.

This plan will hopefully join most of the Western Confederates into one Division at Gettysburg this year. I ask that you join as many men up ASAP. They are going to start working on which brigades will portray what units in January so the more men we have signed up, the better we will look.

If anyone know anybody who has a wagon they wish to bring, there is some money available to reimburse them, but I am not sure how much

I plan on registration the staff. If any staff officer want me to do this for them, please have your money sent to me by December 1st, so I can get this done.

If anyone has any questions please let me know.

Major Brian Mercke

1. Congratulations are in order for the entire unit for its high attendance at Perryville, and for its heroic performance in the continuing high heat.

2. All persons interested in attending the Camp Wildcat event on Saturday, October 20 should contact Captain Allen at his e-mail address mlahouse@aol.com by October 16, so that a convoy can be coordinated, and so that he can let the host unit know how many will be coming.

3. The annual meeting and Christmas party will be held on December 8 at Sgt. Miller's garrison. The meeting wll start at 7:00 pm, with the party starting immediately thereafter. Details and directions will be posted by Chuck in the coming weeks.

4. Coordinators have been appointed from among the membership for both the 2008 Gettysburg and Chickamagua events. The TVB is making plans as well for both these 145th events. The coordinators should immediately start studying transportation alternatives and should start getting lists compiled for those major efforts.

5. NCo's who missed the Perryville event should contact Capt. Allen right away.
